In 1957 McKay Cormack in Victoria built 3 ships, and Mercer Brothers in Westminster built 2 ships.  The 5 sister ships, built for the RCMP Marine Division were named:  RCMP Alert, RCMP Masset, RCMP Ganges, RCMP Nanimo, RCMP Tofino to be stationed in Alert Bay, Prince Rupert, Port Alberne, Campbell River, and Ocean Falls.  These vessels were 65 foot detachment class police boats and had a crew of four.  A captain (usually a sergeant), and engineer (a corporal) and two constable seaman.
